Bathing, Clipping and Trimming Nails for Dogs

Ears and Fur

Remember to always check the ear canals for foreign bodies and even ticks or excess wax. Gently and carefully clean the outer ear with a sterile cotton cloth. Carefully trim long hair around the ears and eyes, keeping your hand firmly over the sensitive area to avoid cutting or poking the dog.

Do not insert anything into the ear canal, as this is dangerous and can cause permanent hearing damage. Dog owners must always follow such strict grooming guidelines. Despite all this, it becomes routine and easier with time.

Nail trimming

Overgrown nails are easy to cut off. It is light in color and grows from the cuticle. Cuticles are usually reddish or darker in color. This is a delicate area, so be careful not to pull, scratch or cut it. Also, don’t cut even close to the cuticles, as this can hurt and cause infection.

Always use a firm grip when holding your dog to trim the nails. If not, the dog will twitch or shake and accidents will happen. If necessary, try using magnifying glasses to get a better look at the paw and make sure the room and treatment area are well lit. Be patient and don’t worry about seeing perfect results right away. This happens over time.

Frequency of Bathing and Treatment

Dogs do not need to be washed every day. The frequency depends on many things, such as breed, because this determines the thickness of the coat and the level of activity. Small dogs should be bathed and groomed approximately once a month to three months.

Larger dogs should be groomed and groomed once a month to every six weeks. Washing with water may be necessary more often than intensive bathing and grooming, but remember that too intensive bathing disrupts the fur’s protective properties.
